Arya’s 39-ball ton, laced with 7 fours and 9 sixes, not only propelled PBKS to a commanding position but also etched his name into IPL history books as one of India’s brightest emerging talents.

A star is born: Priyansh Arya’s maiden IPL century

Arya, the 24-year-old left-hander, walked into the game with a reputation for fearless strokeplay, having impressed in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024 and scoring a brisk 47 on his IPL debut earlier this season. However, what unfolded on Tuesday evening was nothing short of extraordinary. Facing a seasoned CSK bowling attack, Arya announced his arrival on the big stage with a knock that left fans and pundits in awe.

The innings began with a bang as Arya smashed a six off the very first ball from Khaleel Ahmed, setting the tone for what was to come. Despite early wickets tumbling at the other end, including the dismissals of Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer, Arya remained unfazed, taking the attack to CSK’s bowlers with ruthless precision.

Destroying the spin and pace alike

Arya’s assault was particularly brutal against CSK’s spin spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin. After a forgettable opening over that cost 21 runs, Ashwin returned to the attack, only to be welcomed by Arya with a couple of towering sixes. The youngster reached his fifty off just 19 balls—making it the second-fastest half-century of IPL 2025—culminating the milestone with a massive six off Ashwin that sent the Mullanpur crowd into a frenzy.

The real fireworks, however, came against CSK’s pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana. With his century in sight, Arya unleashed a barrage of strokes, hammering a hat-trick of sixes followed by a four to reach the three-figure mark in just 39 deliveries. This blistering knock marked the second-fastest century by an Indian in IPL history, a testament to his audacity and skill.

A one-man army carries PBKS

With PBKS reeling at 44/2 after 3.4 overs, Arya’s innings was a lifeline for the home side. His ability to dominate the powerplay single-handedly—scoring 53 off 19 balls by the end of the first six overs—shifted the momentum firmly in Punjab’s favor. Even as wickets fell around him, Arya stood tall, guiding PBKS to 128/5 after 12 overs, with his unbeaten 80 off 35 balls at that stage showcasing his maturity beyond his years.

By the time he completed his century, Arya had taken PBKS to a position of strength, finishing his knock at 100 off 39 balls before falling soon after. His innings included a staggering 9 sixes, underlining his penchant for clearing the ropes with ease—a trait that has drawn comparisons to some of the IPL’s biggest hitters.
