The breakthrough came in the 18th over when Vaibhav Arora delivered a dipping full toss aimed around knee height. Gill, in aggressive mode, attempted to swat it across the line towards the leg side, targeting the cow corner boundary. However, the shot didn’t come entirely off the middle of the bat. Rinku stationed perfectly near the cow corner region, had a split second to react.
Reading the trajectory early, he sprinted forward and executed a textbook forward dive, keeping his eyes glued to the ball till the last moment. He cupped the catch cleanly inches above the turf—a low, sharp effort that drew admiration from teammates and the bowler alike. Arora couldn’t hide his delight, raising his arms in celebration, while the GT dugout stood and applauded their skipper’s superb innings. Though Gill fell just 10 short of a century, his knock had already laid the foundation for a formidable total of 198/3.

Gujarat Titans’ bowling put KKR under early pressure during chase
The 39th match of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens saw Gujarat post a formidable 198/3 after being invited to bat first. Skipper Gill led from the front with a fluent 90 off 55 balls, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes, before being dismissed by Arora thanks to a brilliant diving catch by Rinku. Sai Sudharsan added a valuable 52 off 36, and Jos Buttler provided the finishing push with an unbeaten 41 from 23 balls. In response, KKR lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz early, trapped lbw by Mohammed Siraj in the first over, and Rashid Khan removed the dangerous Sunil Narine for 17. KKR were restricted to 45/2 at the end of the powerplay, still needing 154 runs from 84 balls.
