Salman Butt picks Pakistan’s game-changers for the high-voltage clash against India in Asia Cup 2025

As the cricketing world gears up for the most anticipated clash of the Asia Cup 2025 — India vs Pakistan — former Pakistan batter Salman Butt has shared his insights on the potential match-winners for the Men in Green. With the encounter set to draw global attention, Butt has highlighted key individuals who could tilt the balance in Pakistan’s favour, while also acknowledging the uphill battle they face against their arch-rivals.

Salman Butt highlights Pakistan’s key weapons against India

Butt underlined the impact of experienced opener Fakhar Zaman and pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi. According to him, Zaman’s aggressive batting at the top and Afridi’s wicket-taking ability with the new ball remain Pakistan’s biggest hopes.

“Fakhar Zaman is always a threat. If Shaheen Afridi can give you three wickets upfront, like he has done before, it can completely disturb India’s batting line-up — that’s how Pakistan got that 150-odd target earlier. So, one brilliant spell or a batting cameo — and by cameo, I mean a slightly extended one, not just a quickfire 30 — can turn things around,” Butt said as quoted by Geosportstv.

His comments point towards Pakistan’s reliance on impactful moments rather than sustained dominance, especially in high-pressure matches where momentum can swing rapidly.

India or Pakistan? Butt reveals his favourites of the high-voltage clash

Despite identifying potential match-winners, Butt offered a realistic assessment of Pakistan’s overall chances. He admitted that while Pakistan can certainly spring a surprise, they will not start as favourites against a strong Indian side.

“Pakistan can win, but they don’t start as favourites. That’s clear. Let’s be honest — on paper, you’re not the favourites. So maybe it’s a 70-30 or 65-35 split; those are their chances from what I can see,” Butt remarked.

Butt’s candid analysis reflects the gulf in depth and consistency between the two sides in recent years. While Pakistan have relied heavily on flashes of brilliance, India’s balanced squad depth has made them a formidable force across formats.

Clash of rivals set to ignite Asia Cup 2025

The India-Pakistan encounters have always transcended the boundaries of cricket, bringing in massive viewership and heightened emotions on both sides of the border. This upcoming clash is no exception, with fans eagerly waiting to see how Pakistan’s young unit, under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha, responds to the challenge.

With senior players like Shaheen, Haris Rauf, and Fakhar carrying the weight of expectations, the Men in Green will look to stage an upset. On the other hand, India, boasting a blend of seasoned campaigners and rising stars, will aim to assert their dominance and secure vital points in the group stage.
