IPL Chairman Arun Dhamal, in his recent exclusive interview with NDTV, has revealed that the board elections, which were scheduled to be held on September 28, are unlikely to be held this year, hence prompting a unanimous choice for the next BCCI President.
Earlier, Roger Binny, the former president of the BCCI, was asked to step down from the position during his term, as, according to the BCCI norms, no official turning 70 would assume office after that day. Hence, Binny, who also turned 70, had to step down from the role.
Rajeev Shukla has been appointed to an interim role as the BCCI president. However, a permanent appointment to the position is not expected anytime soon.

BCCI Elections to be canceled
Recently, during an exclusive interaction with NDTV, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has hinted at the possible cancellation of the BCCI elections, which were supposed to be held during their Annual General Meeting on the 28th of September.
“The nominations would start, and you will get to know who is becoming. I don’t think there will be any elections. It would be done unanimously,” Dhumal told NDTV on Friday.
The current BCCI vice-president, Rajeev Shukla, a great figure in Indian cricket, has been associated in many roles with the board and has been seated in the vice-president chair since 2020. He is one of the strongest contenders for the Presidential role.
Next BCCI President to be chosen unanimously
The current IPL chairperson, Arun Dhumal, claimed that the BCCI will appoint its new president not through any election but unanimously. The rules of the BCCI even allow such a unanimous verdict if a candidate is guaranteed to secure a full house of support.
“So, let the members sit and take a call. As of now, everyone has to give their representation. Once that list is out, we will be able to make out who will be taking what position,” added Dhumal through NDTV.
Previously, Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny have been the former Indian cricketers taking up the administrative role in the BCCI, and the BCCI might cite another former cricketer as the upcoming President.
Currently, with Shukla acting as the president of the BCCI, Devajit Saikia has been taking up the secretary role ever since Jay Shah went on to be elected as the ICC chairman.
Another major concern for the Indian board was their title sponsor after Dream11 was snubbed from their contracts. Dhumal, in a separate conversation, has also talked about the issue.
“I think what is done is done (on Dream 11’s exit)). I would not like to talk about that. But we have started the ball rolling as far as the next sponsor is concerned. I am sure within 2-3 weeks we will get to know that,” Dhumal told reporters on Friday, on the sidelines of PlayCom 2025 summit.
