Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami shared a surprising side of former captain MS Dhoni, who is famously known as “Captain Cool.” While Dhoni is admired for his calm and composed nature on the field, Mohammed Shami revealed that he isn’t always emotionless or cool in every situation.
Shami revealed that Dhoni’s calmness comes from his sharp mind and smart approach to the game, not from being emotionless. The fast bowler revealed that Dhoni can show a bit of aggression depending on the situation and what the game demands.
Mohammed Shami explains his smart but aggressive style
He further noted that if something goes wrong on the field or if a teammate doesn’t follow the plan, Dhoni doesn’t hesitate to correct them strongly. Despite the moments of irritation, Dhoni always manages to keep his emotions in check and lead the team with a unique style.

Mohammed Shami said on India TV’s ‘Aap ki Adalat’ show, “No, it’s not that he is cool all the time. The situation of the game, what the game is demanding—he has very good thinking power. He plays the game smartly. He has a very different style of captaincy. There is a little bit of aggression. Even if you do it on the wrong ground, he would tell you that you are doing this wrong.”
Shami said that Dhoni is truly a “captain cool,” as he stays focused and handles pressure in his own way, making smart decisions even when tensions rise during the match. The fast bowler added, “I think he gets irritated too sometimes. But the captain is cool because he stays to himself. He plays the game in his own way. And he takes the game very well.”
When MS Dhoni lost his cool on Mohammed Shami
Meanwhile, Shami also recalled when MS Dhoni lost his temper at him. Dhoni had strongly scolded the young Indian bowler during a 2014 Test match against New Zealand after he bowled an unnecessary bouncer out of frustration to Brendon McCullum.
Not just that, Shami tried to lie about it by saying it had “slipped out” of his hands. And then Dhoni strictly told him, “Dekh beta, bohot log aaye mere saamne. Bohot log khel ke chale gaye, jhoot mat bol. (I have seen a lot of players come and go. Don’t lie to me. Don’t try to fool your captain.”

‘That reaction was the hardest for me’
The Indian fast bowler said that it was the hardest reaction from Dhoni towards him. However, Dhoni has always been helpful to Shami, and they share a bond like father and son.
Shami signed off by saying, “He was just a little angry. Actually, Virat Kohli missed the catch on the 14th run. And then he made over 300 runs. After that, we had to field for two days. Then he hit a shot on a good ball. It was the last ball of the lunch. Lunch was about to happen. So, I bowled a bouncer, and it flew above Mahi Bhai. I was shocked. We were going for lunch together. He said, “What did you do?” So that reaction was the hardest for me in life to date.”
