Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has been trolled mercilessly for his unexpected mishap while congratulating Afghanistan on their historic victory over England in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Lahore on February 26.

In the virtual eliminator, Afghanistan came with all guns blazing and crushed England by a mere eight runs in the thrilling group match to record their second win over the side in the ICC events, thanks to Azmatullah Omarzai and Ibrahim Zadran’s heroics in Lahore.

Afghanistan kicks out England from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Previously, they defeated the English side in the 2023 ODI World Cup by 69 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. With this crushing defeat, England was knocked out of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with their final game scheduled on March 1 at the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi. Earlier, England suffered a five-wicket defeat against Australia.

On the other hand, Afghanistan has been dubbed the upcoming big team, and they have been making fast strides towards becoming one of the top white-ball sides in the world. India and its fans have been big supporters of Afghanistan cricket, and BCCI has its share in their rise.

After the Afghan side crushed England’s semifinal hopes, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla couldn’t contain his excitement in praising their achievement, but Rajeev Shukla ended up making a huge error.

Rajeev Shukla congratulated the Afghan team on beating England twice in the Champions Trophy, but their first ICC win came in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

After the match in Lahore, Rajeev Shukla posted on X: “England out of the Champions Trophy after losing to Afghanistan. They had lost to Afghanistan in the last Champions Trophy also. All kudos to Team Afghanistan, especially to Ibrahim, who made 177 runs.”

Well, the fans were quick to notice what Rajeev Shukla did that was unexpected for him being part of the game in such a prominent position.

Now, they have been heavily trolling the BCCI vice president for sharing the wrong stats on social media, with some suggesting it was the ODI World Cup 2023.

Here’s how fans react to BCCI VP’s blunder:

Rahmanullah Gurbaz starred in Afghanistan’s historic win over England in the 2023 ODI World Cup

Speaking about the 2023 ODI World Cup match, Afghanistan had posted 284 runs on the board after being invited to bat first by England, thanks to stunning fifties from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (80) and Ikram Alikhil (58) in Delhi. However, there were small but crucial contributions from others as well.

Defending the total, the English team was bowled out for 215 runs with Harry Brook being the top scorer with 66 runs. For the Afghan team, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman each finished with a three-wicket haul while Mohammad Nabi scalped two wickets against England.

Coming back to the Champions Trophy 2025 clash, Ibrahim Zadran played the best innings of his life, scoring 177 runs off 146 balls to help his team post 325/7 on the board. Apart from Zadran, Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (40), Azmatullah Omarzai (41), and Mohammad Nabi (40) also contributed significantly to the team’s massive total against England.
