The cricketing world is gearing up for an exciting showdown as Pakistan prepare to host the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifier, set to commence on April 9, 2025. The tournament will see six teams—Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, West Indies, Thailand, and Scotland—battle it out for two coveted spots in the Women’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to take place in India later this year.

Adding to the anticipation, former Pakistan women’s team captain Bismah Maroof recently shared her thoughts on the event, expressing her excitement about the growth of women’s cricket and the competitive edge this qualifier promises to deliver.

A new chapter for Pakistan cricket

Pakistan hosting the qualifier marks a significant moment for the country’s cricketing landscape, particularly for the women’s game. The tournament will be held across multiple venues, showcasing Pakistan’s ability to organize international events while providing a platform for its players to shine on home soil. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been working diligently to ensure top-notch facilities and a smooth experience for all participating teams, further elevating the nation’s reputation as a cricketing hub.

The stakes are high, with only two teams advancing to the World Cup in India. The qualifier’s lineup features a mix of established full member nations and rising associate teams, setting the stage for a fiercely contested event. For Pakistan, led by a talented squad, this is an opportunity to secure a berth in the global tournament and make a statement in front of their home crowd.

Bismah Maroof on the rise of Women’s cricket

Maroof, a veteran of Pakistan women’s cricket and one of its most celebrated players, recently spoke about the qualifier and the broader evolution of the sport. With years of experience captaining the national side and representing Pakistan in multiple World Cups, Maroof’s insights carry weight. She highlighted the remarkable progress in women’s cricket worldwide, crediting increased opportunities especially for the associate teams and exposure for driving this change.

“Women’s cricket has improved massively in the past few years and it’s going from strength to strength. The associate countries are playing really well, Scotland and Thailand have come a long way and as a full member country, Ireland have grown a lot,” said Maroof as quoted by ICC.
