The West Delhi Lions were crowned champions of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 after registering a commanding six-wicket victory over Central Delhi Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Skipper Nitish Rana was the star of the night, producing a brilliant all-round performance capped by an unbeaten 79 that sealed the title for his side.
Chasing 174, the Lions endured early setbacks as Simarjeet Singh and Arun Pundir struck to leave them wobbling at 48/3 within five overs. The pressure of the final was clear, but Rana held his nerve. He first built a steady 42-run stand with Mayank Gusain before forming a decisive partnership with Hrithik Shokeen. While Shokeen contributed a fluent 42 not out off 27 balls, Rana combined composure with calculated aggression to guide his team home without further trouble.
Earlier, the Kings posted 173/7 after a dramatic turnaround. Reduced to 78/6, they were revived by a defiant 78-run seventh-wicket partnership between Yugal Saini (65 off 48) and Pranshu Vijayran (50 not out off 24). Their late assault shifted momentum, but the total ultimately proved insufficient against the Lions’ strong chase.
For West Delhi, Manan Bhardwaj (2/11) and Shivank Vashisht (2/12) were outstanding with the ball, while Rana chipped in with 1/16 in four overs to underline his all-round impact.
