The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled an extraordinary and richly experienced commentary team for the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), scheduled to begin on April 11, 2025, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and conclude on May 18, 2025, with the grand finale at Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium. The tournament, featuring six competitive franchises, will span 34 matches across four major cities – Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi – promising riveting cricket action complemented by world-class commentary.

One of the most anticipated highlights of the announcement is the inclusion of former England Test captain Alastair Cook, who is all set to make his debut behind the mic in franchise cricket. Known for his calm demeanor, unmatched consistency, and leadership during his playing days, Cook’s transition to commentary adds a fresh and elite voice to the PSL broadcast. His presence is expected to provide valuable insights, especially from a batter’s perspective, enriched by his vast experience of scoring over 12,000 Test runs for England.

Cook will be joined by his compatriot Mark Nicholas, one of the most seasoned cricket broadcasters in the world. Nicholas, who has previously led commentary duties on Sky Sports in England and Channel Nine in Australia, brings decades of experience and eloquence to the panel. Also joining the English contingent are Dominic Cork, a former England all-rounder known for his energetic style, and Mark Butcher, another former English international whose analytical commentary has won praise worldwide.

The international diversity continues with Jean-Paul Duminy, the South African all-rounder known for his tactical understanding of T20 cricket and Mike Haysman, a respected South African-Australian commentator. From Bangladesh, the panel welcomes Athar Ali Khan, a popular voice in South Asian cricket broadcasting, while New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, better known for his explosive batting, joins in a rare commentary appearance. Representing Australia, Lisa Sthalekar – a two-time ICC Women’s ODI World Cup winner and a prominent voice in women’s cricket – will also be part of the team, bringing balance and depth with her commentary.

Pakistan’s legends to enrich the broadcast with local wisdom

From the host nation, the PSL commentary box will feature respected legends: Aamir Sohail, Waqar Younis, Ramiz Raja and Wasim Akram. These legends, each a cornerstone of Pakistan’s cricketing legacy, are set to deliver high-caliber insights throughout the tournament. Waqar and Wasim, both inductees into the ICC and PCB Hall of Fame, bring unrivaled experience and gravitas to the panel, and their expert reading of the game will elevate the broadcast.

Accompanying the big names are Bazid Khan, a technically sharp and balanced analyst, and Urooj Mumtaz, the former captain of Pakistan’s women’s team who has rapidly become one of the most influential voices in cricket commentary. Renowned analyst Sikander Bakht will also lend his experience and analysis to the team, ensuring fans are provided with a well-rounded viewing experience.

In a groundbreaking move, PSL will witness its first-ever full match broadcast in Urdu commentary, an initiative taken to bring the excitement of cricket even closer to the domestic audience. This historic addition marks a major step toward inclusivity and fan engagement.

The Urdu commentary team will comprise Ali Younis, Aqeel Samar, Marina Iqbal, Salman Butt and Tariq Saeed. Their commentary will be supplemented by segments from the broader Pakistan-based commentary team, creating a dynamic blend of expert analysis and local flavor in the national language. This innovative step has already been praised by cricket enthusiasts and experts alike, who believe it will help bridge the gap between urban and regional fans and further democratize the viewership of cricket in Pakistan.
