The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to reveal the list of centrally contracted players soon. However, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is not expected to be included in this list, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India believes he has not done enough to earn a central contract for 2024-25.
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were excluded from the previous season’s central contract list due to their failure to participate in domestic cricket matches. Shreyas made a comeback in domestic cricket and secured a place in the India cricket team. However, Kishan has not yet managed to regain his spot.
Ishan Kishan Axed from Central Contracts for 2024-25
According to a report by Sports Tak, the BCCI believes that Ishan Kishan has made efforts to work on his concerns, but he has not done enough to earn back his spot on the centrally contracted players’ list. Kishan still has to prove himself further to regain his position.
“He still has to wait for his return in central contracts. He has worked on sorting out issues but has not done enough to be get his position back,” a source told Sports Tak.
Ishan Kishan Hasn’t Played for India in Any Format Since November 2023
Ishan Kishan has not played for India in any format since November 2023. He returned to India during the South Africa tour and missed the 2023-24 domestic season. However, he played for Jharkhand across all formats in the 2024-25 season and was selected for the India ‘A’ squad for a tour of Australia.
Kishan had withdrawn from a late-2023 international tour due to travel fatigue and trained with Hardik and Krunal Pandya in Gujarat for the Indian Premier League. Despite being part of India’s 2023 World Cup squad, he was not awarded a central contract.
According to the BCCI’s criteria, male players must play a minimum number of international matches to qualify for a central contract: three Tests, eight ODIs, or ten T20Is within a year. Since Kishan has not participated in any international cricket since late 2023, his chances of securing a contract are slim.

India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to retain their A+ central contracts, worth Rs 7 crore.
Rohit and Kohli remain key figures in India’s Test cricket plans. Following the conclusion of the 2025 Indian Premier League, India will head to England to begin their World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 campaign. They will play a five-match Test series, starting on June 20.
“They are big players and will be accorded the respect they deserve,” the source said.
