Former England National Cricket Team all-rounder Moeen Ali is all set to retire from English cricket. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the all-rounder will be calling on time his domestic career after the T20 Blast and will skip the upcoming edition of the Hundred in 2025.

Moeen Ali, who retired from international cricket in September last year, will now be exploring more opportunities in the overseas leagues. The all-rounder wouldn’t have been able to play in the franchises across the globe due to the ECB’s policy on No-Objection Certificates (NOCs).

Moeen Ali to miss The Hundred

Moeen will be entering his last year of contract in the T20 Blast with Birmingham Bears. The all-rounder will be fast-tracking his move into coaching during the tournament this year with a player-coach role at Birmingham Bears. But it isn’t clear if he will be available for the knockout stages in September.

Moeen also has decided to skip the Hundred. The left-hander has captained Birmingham Phoenix across the first four seasons. The final date for the franchises to finalize their retentions for 2025 has already passed, as it was till 1pm on Monday.

Moeen Ali became the second player from England after Alex Hales to announce the Hundred exir. With the all-rounder calling time on his career in English cricket, he is expected to play in the Caribbean Premier League for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in mid-August, the franchise he represented in the CPL and the inaugural Global Super League last year.

This is a big decision for me and not one I’ve taken lightly – Moeen Ali

While talking about his decision to retire, Moeen Ali said that it wasn’t an easy call for him to take, but he feels that it was best for his family. He expressed his desire to play the game, saying that his passion is still the same. Speaking in a club statement, he said:

“This is a big decision for me and not one I’ve taken lightly. But I’ve reached a decision in the last few days, taking into account what I feel is best for me and my family at this stage in my career. I’m still passionate about the game and want to play as much as I can. I still love playing. I still have passion for the game and I love being in a team environment.”

I think that’ll help me move smoothly into coaching after my playing days are over – Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali also said that his decision will help him move smoothly into coaching after his playing days are over. He expressed his desire to help Warwickshire win the T20 Blast. He elaborated:

“I also enjoy talking to players about cricket and the tactics, and I think that’ll help me move smoothly into coaching after my playing days are over. I came back to Warwickshire with an aim of trying to help them win the Blast and I still want to play a role this year. I’ll be available to play throughout the Blast group games, and would love to be involved as a player-coach.”

Moeen Ali, who is studying for his ECB Level Three coaching qualifications, will be part of the new coaching setup for Warwickshire in T20 last. He will be joining Mark Robinson, who is the head coach, and Matt Walker, who will be the batting coach.
