Cricket experts Harsha Bhogle, Dinesh Karthik, and Rohan Gavaskar have made some bold predictions ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, and one name keeps coming up, and that is none other than India’s new vice-captain and Test captain, Shubman Gill.
All three cricket analysts believe that Shubman Gill is in sensational form and eager to prove himself in the T20I setup. They expect the stylish batter to be the highest run-scorer in the Asia Cup 2025. Karthik said that Gill is making a comeback in the T20Is, and he would be hungry to prove himself.

Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz, “The top run getter in the Asia Cup for me should be Shubman Gill, purely because of the form that he is in. He will come there hungry and determined and make sure he gets the big runs for India.”

On the other hand, Harsha Bhogle said in the same video, “You’re looking at a proper batter who will bat long enough and give you a decent strike rate. And that’s why I’m going with Shubman Gill.”
Even Rohan Gavaskar also picked Gill, saying the Indian Test skipper is a “quality player” and he has looked in “fabulous touch” on the England tour. He added that Gill is in “excellent touch” and will dominate the batting chart in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE.
Who will be the leading wicket-taker?
On the bowling side, Harsha Bhogle, Dinesh Karthik, and Rohan Gavaskar have predicted that the Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy will be the highest wicket-taker in the Asia Cup 2025. Harsha highlighted Varun’s ability to strike in the middle overs.
Bhogle noted, “Rashid Khan always gets a lot of wickets. Haris Rauf always gets a lot of wickets. I might actually go out on a limb. I don’t know what his current form is, but yes, Varun Chakravarthy.”
Meanwhile, Karthik pointed to the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy’s consistency in Dubai and past ICC events, including India’s victorious ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign earlier this year.

Gavaskar said that Chakravarthy’s current form makes him a serious threat to opposition batsmen. He noted: It would be Varun Chakravarthy. Just the way he’s been bowling and the form he’s in. That in the middle overs, when he comes out to bowl, he’ll be the top wicket taker.”

On being asked to pick one surprise player to watch in the Asia Cup 2025, Gavaskar picked Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage, while Karthik named India’s Jitesh Sharma, saying, “He’s got the skill set to take India home when it is deep in that run chase or when they’re setting a good target.”
Bhogle named Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka. However, the commentator went with Nissanka as the player to watch out for in the tournament. They felt these emerging talents could steal the spotlight with their performances in high-pressure moments in the UAE.

When it comes to predicting the champion of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, all three picked India as overwhelming favorites to lift the trophy in the UAE.
Karthik and Gavaskar pointed out India’s recent consistency across formats and called the side “clear favorites,” while Bhogle noted that they have the depth, talent, and experience to lift the trophy in the UAE.
Karthik said, “Being an Indian, I have no doubt it will be India if they play to their potential. At the end, Bhogle stated, “India is going as overwhelming favorites; on the day anything can happen.”
