The former Pakistan captain also took a sharp dig at the former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan with a blistering remark on a live TV show.
Afridi didn’t directly mention Pathan’s name but instead said that there are several players who constantly prove their loyalty to their country but are still sidelined or judged unfairly despite being patriotic from day one.

Afridi gave a clear hint about roasting Irfan Pathan when he mentioned how some players refused to face Pakistan in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 in July, but they are now commentating in the Asia Cup 2025, where the Men in Blue will also face the Men in Green.
Shahid Afridi said on Samaa TV’s Zor Ka Jor, “There is too much in India. There, people go as far as setting houses on fire and even threatening the players. There are some players who are still struggling to prove that they are Indians. These poor guys have been trying to prove themselves as Indian ever since they were born. And then, they shamelessly commentate in the Asia Cup 2025.”

Shahid Afridi has been barking for a long time: Irfan Pathan recalled an ugly fight
In August 2025, Irfan Pathan recalled his heated clash with Afridi on a flight from Karachi to Lahore during India’s tour of Pakistan, after the former Pakistan captain called him a “kid” and messed with his hair. Afridi had even said some abusive words to Pathan. Later, he dominated Pakistan, taking 67 wickets and scoring 807 runs, including a century, in his international career.

Pathan had recalled, as quoted by the Times of India, “Abdul Razzaq was sitting with me then. I asked him what kind of meat is available here. He told me about the different kinds of meat. Then I asked if dog meat was available. Afridi was sitting right there. Razzaq was shocked to hear this and said, ‘Hey Irfan, why are you saying this?’”
He added, “I said, ‘He (Afridi) has eaten dog meat; he has been barking for a long time.’ After that, Afridi couldn’t say anything.”
