Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly, has finally opened up on the no-handshake row in the India vs Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025.
The legendary Sourav Ganguly refused to stir the pot in the no-handshake controversy and revealed that he stopped watching the India vs Pakistan match after 15 overs because it became too one-sided.
You need to ask the captain what he did and why he did it – Sourav Ganguly
A lot of controversies have erupted since the India vs Pakistan clash ended as the Men In Blue decided to boycott the customary handshakes with the Men In Green.
Your daily dose of cricket!
This has caused a panic in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the Mohsin Naqvi-led governing body is trying its best to save its face after the utter humiliation suffered by the entire country.
PCB have lodged a complaint with ICC to remove Match Referee Andy Pycroft from the Asia Cup 2025, threatened to boycott the match against UAE if their demands are not met, and even sacked their own Director Usman Wahla.
At an event on Monday, September 15, Sourav Ganguly was asked about the no-handshake saga, and he replied that Suryakumar Yadav is the right person to answer the question and not him.
“You need to ask the captain what he did and why he did it. I am too far. I am launching my ethnic brand. I really don’t have an answer to that,” Ganguly said at an event in Kolkata.
India are too far ahead in cricket – Sourav Ganguly
India showed sheer dominance in the match from the very first over and decimated the Men In Green to register a comfortable 7-wicket victory.
While talking about the match, Sourav Ganguly said that India are a way too superior side to Pakistan and revealed that he switched to the Premier League match between Manchester United and Manchester City after the first 15 overs.
“Pakistan is no match. I say that with respect, just because I see what the team is, it’s the lack of quality on the side. The Indian team played this game without Virat and Rohit, who were stalwarts for such a long time,” Sourav Ganguly said.
“India are too far ahead in cricket. From Pakistan and any of these Asia Cup teams. There’ll be one or two days when they’ll get beaten, but the majority of the days, they’ll be the best team. And I was not surprised by what I saw. I actually stopped watching after the first 15 overs, and I was watching Manchester City play Manchester United last night. Because there is no competition anymore in India vs Pakistan,” he added.
I don’t think India-Pakistan is a contest anymore – Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly also took a brutal dig at Pakistan, saying that he would rather watch India’s matches against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka instead of wasting time on seeing the classless Men In Green get destroyed every single time.
“We think about Pakistan as the Wasim Akrams, the Waqar Younises, the Saeed Anwars and Javed Miandads. Pakistan of this modern age and Pakistan of that era are chalk and cheese, so it’s not a competition anymore. I’d rather watch India play Australia and India play South Africa as well as England, Sri Lanka and even Afghanistan,” said Ganguly.
“I don’t think India-Pakistan is a contest anymore. We keep hyping it, and in the last 5 years, every hype has been shattered. It’s just been one-way traffic,” Ganguly said.
