Former India National Cricket Team captain and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has calmed down all the panic after the one-week suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

IPL 2025 on 7-day suspension amid India-Pakistan tensions

The IPL 2025 match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala was called off midway through as Pakistan launched a cowardly attack on India, and a blackout had to be enforced.

A day after the incident, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that during the meeting with relevant authorities and stakeholders, the decision had been made to suspend the Indian Premier League 2025 for one week.

BCCI also stated that fresh updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the IPL 2025 will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation and a discussion with the government.

Notably, 58 matches have so far been completed in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, and 12 more group stage matches remain, along with the playoffs.

During COVID, it was another emergency – Sourav Ganguly

Speaking about the current situation involving the Indian Premier League 2025, Sourav Ganguly said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is fully capable of handling it efficiently.

Sourav Ganguly highlighted how the governing body smoothly conducted the IPL 2025 during the COVID-19 disruptions in 2020 and 2021 and was confident of a smooth conduct this time as well.

“I have seen today that the IPL is suspended for 7 days. The BCCI will complete this. BCCI is efficient. During COVID, it was another emergency. I am sure the BCCI will complete it,” Ganguly told India Today in an interview.

“A COVID-like situation is different. BCCI will work as per the Indian government guidelines. Jawans are our pride not because of the war but what they do day in and day out. We are here in peace for them,” Ganguly added.

For the last 18 years, talent has been emerging from the IPL – Sourav Ganguly

The ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League saw the emergence of youngsters like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Ayush Mhatre, Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, among many others, who set the stage on fire with their brilliant performances.

Talking about the youngsters, Sourav Ganguly said that IPL has produced great talent over the years and labelled it as one of the best cricket competitions in the world.

“For the last 18 years, talent has been emerging from the IPL. Punjab opener Priyansh Arya, Suryavanshi, and Prabhsimran Singh played brilliantly. The IPL is one of the best cricket tournaments in the world,” Ganguly further said.
