“Viewers will leave the IPL to watch…”: Hasan Ali makes a bold remark ahead of PSL 2025

With the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) set to commence on April 11 in Rawalpindi, Karachi Kings’ star pacer Hasan Ali has ignited a fiery new chapter in the ever-simmering rivalry between South Asia’s premier cricket leagues. The 30-year-old fast bowler boldly claimed that fans would choose the PSL over the Indian Premier League (IPL) if the tournament can consistently offer high-quality cricket coupled with entertainment.

PSL vs IPL: A bold challenge

“Our people love cricket, and the fans are very emotional. We will try our best to make them happy with our performances. Fans watch the tournament where there’s good cricket with entertainment. If we play well in the PSL, viewers will leave the IPL to watch us,” said Hasan Ali, as quoted by Geo News. His remarks reflect a growing confidence within PSL circles as the league gears up for its most ambitious season yet.

Ali’s assertion comes at a pivotal moment. Since its inception in 2016, the PSL has steadily carved a niche in the competitive world of T20 cricket. However, the IPL – launched in 2008 – remains the global gold standard. With PSL 2025 marking a decade of the Pakistani league’s existence, the timing of Ali’s challenge to the IPL is both symbolic and strategic.

Rebuilding fans trust

The fast bowler also touched upon a broader issue affecting Pakistani cricket: waning fan morale. Recent underwhelming performances by the national side, including a lackluster tri-nation ODI series and a forgettable white-ball outing against New Zealand, have dampened spirits.

“When the national side underperforms, it affects overall cricket morale. We need to play quality cricket to bring disappointed fans back to the stadiums,” Ali emphasized.

Eyes on the PSL 2025 title

For Ali, PSL 2025 represents more than just a tournament – it’s a personal mission. After bagging 14 wickets in 10 matches last season, he is aiming for an even stronger showing this year to bolster his case for a return to the national team.

Karachi Kings, once champions in 2020, are entering this season with renewed purpose. Under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Ravi Bopara and assistant coach Shaun Tait, the franchise is hoping to make a strong title run.

“Our full focus is on winning the title. Ravi Bopara’s experience will be beneficial, and Shaun Tait’s insights have already strengthened our bowling unit,” he said.

Ali, who has been in and out of the national side in recent years, is determined to use this PSL season as a springboard. “I performed well last year and aim to do even better to return to the Pakistan team,” he added.
