Great feeling and a perfect return gift to India – Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav, who turned 35 on September 15, also thanked the crowd for chanting happy birthday. The India skipper added that he was delighted to remain in the middle till the end to finish off the game. Suryakumar Yadav elaborated:
“(Crowd chanting happy birthday) Great feeling and a perfect return gift to India. Human tendency that it keeps running in your mind when you think about it (his earlier line about the win being a return gift).
“You definitely want to win it and when you win it, you have it ready. One box that I always wanted to tick – stay there and bat till the end. For the whole team, we think it’s just another game. We prepare the same for all the opposition. That’s what happened few months back. The team that won the CT set the tone. I’m always a fan of spinners because they control the game in the middle.”
What happened in the previous T20I between India and Pakistan?
The previous T20I match between India and Pakistan took place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9 in New York. India pulled off a thrilling six-run win in that game while defending 119.
Batting first, India struggled on a tricky surface and were bowled out for 119 in 19 overs. Rishabh Pant was the only batter to find some rhythm, scoring 42 off 31 balls with six boundaries. Axar Patel chipped in with 20, but Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Naseem Shah (3/21) and Haris Rauf (3/21), kept the Indian batting in check.
While chasing, Pakistan appeared to be in control at 80/3 after 14 overs with Mohammad Rizwan holding one end. However, Jasprit Bumrah turned the match on its head by dismissing Rizwan for 31 and later removing Iftikhar Ahmed in the 19th over, finishing with 3/14 from his four overs.
Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel also added pressure, and Pakistan were restricted to 113/7 in their 20 overs.
