The north Himalaya was hit by a super 7.1 magnitude early in Tuesday morning claiming at least 53 lives and over 62 injured. The quake was centred in Tingri in the rural zone in the Everest region of Tibet at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), stated the China Earthquake Networks Centre.

The quake, recorded at 9:The preliminary reports said that the earthquake occurred at 05 am local time (0105 GMT) and resulted into great loss in Tibet and its effect was felt in Nepal, Bhutan and the northern part of India. The first estimate from CCTV in China was nine deaths, however this number had increased as the duration of searching for survivors lengthened.

In Tingri, shocks and further ones ranging from 4.4 RWG and more damaged buildings and filled the roads with debris from the structures. It was on the social media that we saw the extent of the damage the incident had caused especially in such towns as Lhatse. Rescue workers are searching desperately for survivors and carrying out rescues.

Reports indicate that effects of the quake were even experienced as far as Nepal, about 400 kilometer (250miles) away from the point of the shake in Kathmandu. Petsrified people left their homes and thinking about previous devastating earthquakes in the area. Mr Anoj Raj Ghimire from the local authority in the region close to Mount Everest also said that there was no early report of loss of lives though he said that officials had been dispatched to the area with a view of making an assessment.

the bibliotaph, a resident of Kathmandu who spoke to the reporters, said, “I thought my child was moving the bed… and then the windows began shaking. We evacuated immediately.”

The Bhutan’s capital Thimphu and Indian Bihar state also experienced the shaking. Local officials in India said that there were no fatalities or injuries and no significant property losses.

The mountain formation consisting the Himalayan region is because of the movement of two tectonic plates: the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate. Previous ones including the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and the 2015 Nepal quake have been tragic proving the area’s liability. Relief operations are still underway as the area tries to tally the cost of the disaster.
