The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to release the poll dates of the Delhi assembly elections on Tuesday at 2 in the afternoon. The poll body will announce the days for voting and counting during press briefing today. After that announcement, the model code of conduct will be implemented.
The current term of the Delhi assembly is to end on February 23 and the voting is expected to take place in the first week of February. Earlier today, the ECI released the last electoral roll for Delhi assembly elections, according to which 1.55 crore people are voters. This includes, 83,49, 711 male voters, 71,73,218 female voters and 1,261 third-gender voters. Moreover, there are over 2,08,000 new voters, the beneficiaries who are between the age of 18-19 years.
Of the total voters, 244400 are in the elderly bracket, of which 277000 voters are above 80 years.
In the political race, AAP Supremo and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will contest against Sandeep Dikshit, son of the late Sheila Dikshit and Congress MP, Parvesh Sahib Singh of BJP. In Kalkaji, she will be up against Congress’ Alka Lamba and sitting BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri of South Delhi.
Others in the fray are AAP’s Manish Sisodia who is up against BJP’s Sardar Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Congress’ Farhad Suri in Jangpura. Awadh Ojha who is AAP candidate is up against BJP’s Ravinder Singh Negi and Congress’ Chaudhary Anil Kumar in Patparganj. Ex Delhi minister H Ysuf will be a contender with AAP’s Imran Hussain in Ballimaran constituency. In Gandhi Nagar, BJP candidate is Arvinder Singh Lovely who will go up against AAP candidates Naveen Chaudhary and in Patel Nagar, BJP candidate is Raaj Kumar Anand who will take on AAP candidate Parvesh Ratan.
The dates for the 2020 elections were declared on 6 January, while the voting took place on 8 February and vote counting on 11 February.
