Police have arrested a Class 12 student who used it to send hoax bomb threats to several schools in Delhi. The minor allegedly sent emails to several schools within the last few weeks threatening to bomb the schools in order to keep from taking his own tests. Police claim that he drew multiple schools in each email, refraining from including his own, 23 of the schools combined in one email alone.

A Plan to Escape Exams

The student planned on how he or she would create havoc for which the threats of a bomb would be in vein if exams were to be called off. Although asking for mass evacuations and provoking searches by bomb squads, his emails themselves contained no forbidden things; however, the letters brought trouble and additional unscheduled days off for students.

High-Profile Targets

Prominent schools such as Delhi Public School Rohini or DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar was among 40 schools that received single day threat last month. The latter threatened to detonate “planted bombs” if $30,000 was not paid and escalated the confusion.

Widespread Impact

These hoaxes were not just limited to the schools but also brought miseries to Airlines also forcing them to undergo for emergency landing and many flights were disturb. In another case last year, a 25-years male from Delhi was arrested for a threat involving a bomb and a 17-years-male was arrested in Mumbai for trying to deceive others by threatening to blow up his friend.

Law and Order Debate

The frequent threats led to political chaos; Atishi, the Chief Minister, condemned the BJP-led central government for inefficiency in law and order. The Delhi Police affiliated to the Union Home Ministry worked with schools and planned training sessions for staff on how to handle such emergenciess.

Consequences

Although the student’s goal was to escape examinations, the hoaxes also interfered with the maintenance of the new normal, caused unnecessary spending of resources and increased public concern, resulting in vigorous police measures.
