NCDC is closely looking into respiratory and seasonal influenza reports in India due to confirmed HMPV epidemic in China. Leaders have said there is no reason to panic, current statistics do not show a spike of, respiratory diseases, within India.
Dr. Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services (DGHS) stated that HMPV is a mild respiratory virus similar to colds and flu like viruses especially to the young and elderly. Finally, analysing the data for December 2024, there were not considerable changes in details connected with the respiratory outbreaks. No cluster of cases has therefore been reported by our institutions,” he said.
The NCDC continues to engage with such agencies for technical validation of such advancements and update them accordingly. Dr. On this, Goel said that in winter season, diseases of respiratory tracts were common, a situation that hospitals presume since they already have adequate stocks of beds, face masks, oxygen tanks etc.
The general measures recommended against infectious respiratory diseases are offered by public health departments. For example if a person has a cough or a cold he should be discouraged from moving around the community to prevent spreading the disease. As far as I am concerned, patients should adhere to respiratory hygiene measures and utilize simple analgesics for cold and fever as needed, Dr. Goel continued.
Other health outfitter such as the NCDC will also remain in charge of constant follow up of the situation as well as issuing statements when the need arises. The clients are encourage to be care and practice good hygiene but there is no need for alarm at the current moment.
India’s health is still on standby to address issues of seasonal flu to get well prepared to tackle outbreaks of any type of respiratory illness this winter.
