India Slams Pakistan at UNHRC, Calls It a “Failed State”

India launched a strong rebuttal against Pakistan at the seventh meeting of the 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Thursday, calling it a “failed state” that relies on international aid to survive. India’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, Kshitij Tyagi, on their behalf, attacked the Pakistani leadership for spreading falsehoods assigned to by the Pakistani Defence.

Tyagi’s remarks came in response to allegations made by Pakistan’s Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, who accused India of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. Responding decisively, Tyagi declared, “It is with regret to witness Pakistan’s own leaders and members of the delegation continuing to peddle such impugnations that have been propagated by Pakistan’s military terrorist complex. Pakistan is turning the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) into a joke by using it as its only mouthpiece.

He also criticized the use of international fora by Pakistan to peddle anti-India propaganda while pretending to be oblivious to its own deep-rooted issues, such as human rights and political instability. “It is unfortunate that this Council’s time continues to be wasted by a failed state that thrives on instability and survives on international handouts. Its rhetoric reeks of hypocrisy, its actions of inhumanity, and its governance of incompetence. But India is focused on democracy, on progress, and on upholding dignity for its people—values that Pakistan would be wise to emulate”, Tyagi declared.

Jammu & Kashmir: An Integral Part of India

Affirming India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir, Tyagi also stated categorically that the Union Territories of Jammu Kashmir Ladakh are and will, in perpetuity be indivisible and inalienable from India). He stressed how much has been achieved in the area in the last few years, and compared this to Pakistan’s claims of unrest and instability.

“The unprecedented political, social, and economic progress in J&K in the past few years speaks for itself. These successes are a testament to the people’s trust in the government’s commitment to bring normalcy to a region scarred by decades of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” he said.

He charged Pakistan with having no moral authority to speak a word of human rights or democracy, in light of its track record of persecuting religious groups, curtailing political opposition, and harboring (internationally condemned) terrorists. Being a state that considers human right violation, persecution of minorities, and gradual disintegration of democratic values as state policy and brazenly protects UN-designated terrorists, Pakistan has no moral standing to teach lectures”, he went on to state.

Pakistan Urged to Focus on Domestic Issues
Tyagi further proposed to Pakistan that Pakistan should abandon its “unhealthy attachment” to India, and focus on governance and justices for the citizens of Pakistan. Again, he stated that the governments of Pakistan is still giving priority to anti-India propaganda and not to its worsening domestic condition.

“Instead of its unhealthy obsession with India, Pakistan should focus on providing actual governance and justice to its own people. It is unfortunate that this Council’s time continues to be wasted by a failed state that thrives on instability and survives on international handouts,” Tyagi said.

India’s Strong Position at the UNSC

India’s recent views at the UNHRC are in line with an equally powerful position taken on February 19 by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish. During a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Open Debate, Harish vociferously refuted Pakistan’s assertion on Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan have referred to an integral and inalienable part of India, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in his remarks. I would like to reaffirm that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always be, an integral and inalienable part of India,” Harish stated.

Conclusion

India’s recent position at the UNHRC underlining its iron grip on Pakistan’s convoluted plot to keep peddling disinformation across the globe. Indicating its preference for democracy, advancement and stability, India has once again asserted its territorial control, revealing the weakness of Pakistan in the Jammu and Kashmir region and the extent to which Pakistan has become dependent on foreign assistance. This exchange at the UNHRC also reinforces India’s narrative as a country motivated for growth and governance, at the same time highlighting Pakistan’s shortcomings for failing to implement reforms in its sociopolitical and economic crises.
