Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh: A devastating fire broke out on Sunday at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, causing widespread panic among attendees. The event took place in the tent city’s (a sprawling) Sector 19. First report suggests that the fire started with an explosion of cooking gas cylinders. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

Details of the Incident

According to Bhaskar Mishra, In-charge of the Akhara Police Station, the fire erupted following the explosion of two cylinders in the campsite. Two cylinders went off in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela, leading to a large fire in the camps. Firefighters are working to control the blaze,” he stated.

The fire destroyed approximately 20 to 25 tents, leaving the affected pilgrims scrambling for safety. Disturbing images from the scene depicted massive clouds of smoke emerging from the epicenter while fire service personnel and members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) engaged the fire.

Response and Relief Efforts

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath immediately saw the issue. His office released a statement confirming that the blaze had been brought under control. Acceding to his orders, senior officers immediately deployed to the scene to monitor rescue and relief activities.
