Rahul Gandhi on Budget: ‘A Band-Aid for Bullet Wounds’

Political opposition has strongly condemned the Union Budget in their view as being a strategy that favors the wealthy class while disregarding fundamental economic matters. Political leaders from different sides of the spectrum admitted that tax rate cuts constituted an advantageous development yet they doubted the government’s fundamental direction.

Rahul Gandhi’s Swift Criticism

Taking inspiration from singer Taylor Swift, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“A band-aid for bullet wounds! Amid global uncertainty, solving our economic crisis demanded a paradigm shift. But this government is bankrupt of ideas.”

According to him the BJP government’s budget demonstrated no new thinking and did not deliver real economic help.

The Left parties assessed the budget as a financial plan designed exclusively for privileged groups.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPM] released an official statement because it denounced the budget because of its concentration on pro-wealth policies.

“Instead of addressing the root cause of low demand—mass unemployment and shrinking wages—the Modi government seeks to stimulate the economy by offering tax cuts to a privileged few while slashing expenditures. This is a budget by the rich, for the rich.”

The CPIML-Liberation criticized the government because it neglected healthcare needs and failed to support workers. According to the party the actual healthcare expenditure fell below previous year budget forecasts without providing necessary wage increases to ASHA, aanganwadi and mid-day meal workers.

AAP Claims Credit for Tax Cuts

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) linked the income tax rate decreases to its promulgated middle-class manifesto preparing for the upcoming Delhi elections.

The leader of AAP Arvind Kejriwal asked for stronger economic assistance by stating:

“I had asked the government to announce in the budget that no billionaire’s loan would be waived. Instead, the saved money should be used to:

  1. Waive middle-class home and vehicle loans, along with farmers’ loans.

  2. Halve the income tax and GST rates.”

According to his statement the government should implement assistance programs that benefit average citizens instead of providing benefits to corporations.

Chief Minister Mayawati expressed that the annual budget revolves around political priorities.
BSP leader Mayawati condemned the NDA along with UPA administrations because they selected partisan benefits above public wellbeing. She wondered why economic conditions persisted in their difficult state even though governments promised improvements one after another.

“If this government truly cared about the people, why are their lives still miserable?”

Aaditya Thackeray: BJP Now “Negotiating” with Taxpayers

During his mockery of the BJP’s policy change Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray pointed out how the party had previously guaranteed to eliminate income tax before the 2014 elections.

Since 2012-14 the BJP declared it would get rid of income tax but later chose to change tax rates while keeping undisclosed rules in place. The power of citizens has reduced BJP numbers to 240 seats as they lost their full majority status.

Poll-Bound Bihar Given Preference

The opposition leaders demonstrated their frustration because the budget seemed to distribute more benefits to Bihar and Assam ahead of their upcoming elections.

The government received criticism from Harsimrat Kaur Badal who serves as an MP for the Shiromani Akali Dal due to ignoring the farmers’ priorities.

The budget provides excessive attention to Bihar together with Assam for election purposes but completely fails to deliver on the promised MSP legal guarantee for farmers.

She observed that farmers currently demonstrate against unreasonably low prices even though their requests did not appear in the budget.

Tamil Nadu’s Exclusion from Budget

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin voiced his disappointment because his state received no attention despite continuously achieving high positions in official reports.

“Tamil Nadu is praised in the Economic Survey, Niti Aayog reports, and higher education rankings, but this budget completely ignores the state. Is the Union Budget only meant for BJP-ruled states and election-bound regions?”

His comments represented a rising trend of unfair fund distribution between different states.

Conclusion

The 2025 Union Budget has led to an increase in political disputes because opposition figures blame the government for supporting corporate masters and election-season strategies. Critics point out that the budget fails to provide sustainable economic solutions along with neglecting working-class financial struggles while benefiting both states under BJP rule and those approaching elections.

Public opinion about economic recovery together with election sentiments will determine how the budget performs in the future.
