Telangana Approves Metro Rail Expansion to Medchal, Shamirpet

Hyderabad Metro to extend 45 km, connecting Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet and Paradise to Medchal, enhancing connectivity in northern suburbs.

Hyderabad the capital of Andhra Pradesh and the twin city was a happy new year begin with joyful news when the Telangana government proposed to expand the length of the Metro rail services to Medchal and Shamirpet. Its rationale is to enhance transportation provision for the northern suburbs while enhancing the access achievement of the area’s residents’ demands.

The project will include two major stretches: a 22 km corridor from Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Shamirpet, and 23 km corridor from Paradise to Medchal. The Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked the officials to come up with the DPR for these extensions in the Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion under Phase-II B.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Managing Director NVS Reddy explained that the Phase-II expansion has been divided into two parts: Phase-II A and Phase-II B aide with Five corridors and 54 station each covering 76.4 km Phase-II A costs ₹24,269 crore. Although the DPR for Phase-II A is available, the DPRs for Phase-II B will be available in three months’ time. This project is implemented under the policy and cooperation of the Telangana and Indian governments.

The length of the Paradise-Medchal corridor is to cover 23 kilometers with major intersections to include Tadbun, Bowenpally, Suchitra Circle, Gundlapochampally, Kandlakoya, the ORR exit, and others. Likewise, the 22-km long JBS-Shamirpet corridor is proposed to cater the traffic of Vikrampuri, Kharkhana, Tirumalagiri, Lothukunta, Alwal, Bolarum, Hakimpet, Tumkunta and exit of ORR.

For instance, residents in these familiar northern suburbs have had to embarked on campaigns and protests to show they require the Metro connectivity. Hussain (2012) has divided this green signal of the Indian government for project promotion, aims to and conquer commutation troubles and improve the public transport system in Hyderabad city.

The new extension of the Metro places emphasis on enhanced access, shorter travelling time and the integration to the progressive urbanization of the city. The DPR submission will be the beginning to obtaining the necessary clearances and commencement of the work.
