A senior official in Iran said his country is ready to help in the case of a 47-year-old Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya who was convicted of murdering a Yemeni citizen in Yemen and was sentenced to death penalty. ‘We are willing to do whatever it took as it is a humanitarian case,’ the official said in anonymous. Nimisha, who has been in prison since 2017, received a death sentence from Yemen’s president last month.
The same time, Iran has provided an intervention offer while India keeps on trying to seek legal possibilities by cooperating with Nimisha’s family. The ruling could be impacted by Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who occupy Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
Bilateral Relations between Iran and India
Iran has made this offer before foreign office level talks with India scheduled to start in which Tehran will be urging to restore trade ties, especially oil exports. Nevertheless, Iran underlined the possibility to develop the sphere of economic relations with India further.
Regarding India’s rising import of oil from Russia, the Iranian official said: ‘Sanctions imposed on Iran and Russia are different issues, but it is quite reasonable to ask why, knowing all the above, India has continued energy imports from Russia but not from Iran’. Tehran also wants to see this disparity addressed to enhance that relationship.
West Asia and Counter Terrorism Cooperation
The official also spoke of the conflict in West Asia where he condemned Israel for its military aggression in Gaza Strip and said that Palestine has been made an international issue. As it should be, the occupation of Palestine cannot be left unaddressed. A Palestine state should be an independent one,” the official concluded.
Shortly after the changes in Syria, Iran, which focuses on regional security issues, showed interest in increasing anti-terrorism cooperation with India.
The humanitarian, economic and geopolitical aspects of the relations between both countries show change in relation between Iran and India while both countries are trying to find their ways in the convention of the new world.
